Too late for breakfast? Too early for lunch? Ah, well, if that’s the case, you must be here for brunch. Here are the best brunch spots near Chicago to check out for a hearty meal and a good time.

Jam

Jam has become one of the most well-known brunch restaurants not just in Chicago, but in the entire country. It has made seven straight appearances on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list, which honors restaurants committed to serving high-quality food at affordable prices. Menu favorites include the Apple Cider Pancakes, Malted Custard French Toast, and Hot Chicken & Waffles. The current menu offers Cinnamon Pancake with Eggnog Custard and Holiday Tuile. If you’re looking for items that are more on the lunch side of things, try the turkey club with fresh avocado, tomato, and bacon on multi-grain bread, the lamb BLT, or kale salad. The kids menu features items for the youngest visitors, such as French Toast Sticks, too.

m. henry

At m. henry, you’ll find globally inspired, new-American style meals. The freshest natural and seasonal ingredients are used, and locally produced and organic products are used when possible. You’ll find both healthy and delightfully rich items on the menu. The brunch menu has featured savory items like Florentine shrimp and corn cake benedict, pancetta and roasted tomato benedict, and a smoked salmon omelette. Looking for something sweeter? There’s plenty to choose from for those with a sweet tooth, from cinnamon roll French toast to blackberry bliss cakes. Want to take something home? All bakery orders must be placed 48 hours in advance.

The sister restaurant to Big Chicks, Tweet came on the Chicago scene in 2003. Sidewalk café seating is available weather-permitting, and large parties are welcome (just call ahead). The menu is filled with seasonal favorites throughout the year, and the selection of gluten-free items is always evolving. Customer favorites include Mary Lou Zelazny’s biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash and eggs, and Mark Jackson’s sunrise granola. There are a number of plant-based signature meals to choose from as well, including vegan southwest tofu scramble, avocado toast, and the kale burger.
