When youāre looking at lists of available features for the Jeep Compass and the Ford Escapeālike their available drivetrains and selectable drive modesāthese SUVs may seem nearly identical. However, when you compare these features more closely, youāll find the Compass brings the heat.
The available Selec-TerrainĀ® Traction Management System of the Compass is prepped with a handful of modes, including Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, and more. Thereās some overlap with the Escapeās available Selectable Drive Modes. However, youāll have questionable traction in mud and on rocks, as the Escapeās system doesnāt offer those modes.
On top of this, youāll also be working with an available Hill Descent Control system in the Jeep Compass. This system will let your vehicle automatically manage its speed when youāre driving downhill to prevent you from accelerating too quickly. Unfortunately, the Ford Escape doesnāt offer a similar feature, making it less fit for driving in hilly areas.
When it comes to power, youāll find more with the base trim of the Jeep Compass than the Ford Escape. In fact, the Jeep comes standard with a 2.0L engine that offers 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, while the Ford Escape has a standard 1.5L engine. With this engine, youāll only achieve 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque.
While you can upgrade to a 2.0L engine on the Escape, youāll still only have up to 280 lb-ft of torque, falling behind the Compass.
Convenience is essential when it comes to exploration. Whether youāre driving to work alone or taking the kids and their friends to the movies, you can be sure youāll have all the space you need in the cabins of these SUVs, plus features to help keep everyone safe.
Both the Compass and the Escape offer 60/40 split-folding rear seats to accommodate cargo items small and large.
To make it easier to drive through the rain or snow, the Compass also brings with it some impressive features that will help make your life easier when weather reduces visibility. This includes heated exterior mirrors to help prevent them from icing over.
In addition, the Jeep Compass is ready to take on any storm or weather with these features:
The Ford Escape offers heated exterior mirrors but fails to offer as many weather-ready features as the Jeep Compass.
From trips to the mall to vacations out of town, youāll be cruising all over the place in your Jeep or Ford. Whether youāre looking for navigation features or top-of-the-line audio, youāll be impressed by the technology available with these models.
When climbing into the Jeep Compass, youāll have the option of being greeted with the standard 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Think of this wide, full-colored screen as your information hub where you can control all driving and media settings.
This screen is also where youāll access the UConnectĀ® 5 infotainment system. Hereās an explanation of exactly what you can do with this technology:
Now, riders can play, share, and stream their content easily. The system also makes room to connect up to ten smartphones via BluetoothĀ® simultaneously. Downloading the available UconnectĀ® app allows drivers to use their smartphone to start their engine, lock or unlock their vehicle, or receive a safety notification.
The system also includes TomTomās Traffic & Travel Services, giving drivers access to current traffic information needed for a smooth ride.
This infotainment system is your inside scoop to all aspects of your model and is where you can also receive safety/maintenance notifications. The Ford Escape offers its own version of infotainment; however, it does not offer TomTomās Traffic services.
As you can see, thereās no real competition between the Jeep Compass and the Ford Escape because Jeep takes the cake when it comes to the compact SUV class. Donāt take our word for it, though! Come down to Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and see for yourself when you experience it firsthand.
