2018 Ram 1500 vs Ford F-150
Drivers in the Chicago, Skokie, Park Ridge, and Forest Park areas want a truck that’ll not only work hard, but will also be pleasurable to ride in. Two available options are the Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150. However, to help decide which truck is right for you, you’ll need to learn more about them.
That’s why our team at Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram created this 2018 Ram 1500 vs. Ford F-150 vehicle comparison. We’ll explain the similarities and differences between each truck to help you make an informed decision. Read about them below, and contact us if you have any questions.
The 2018 Ram 1500 comes standard with a 3.6L V6 engine, but has an optional 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that offers high fuel-efficiency to help you drive farther for longer. When equipped with the EcoDiesel engine, the 1500 can achieve an EPA-estimated 21 city/29 highway MPG.*
The most fuel-efficient engine in the 2018 Ford F-150 is its 2.7L EcoBoost® V6. However, it can only achieve an EPA-estimated 20 city/26 highway MPG.
To further enhance the capability of the 1500, it has an available Active-Level™ Four-Corner Air Suspension system. It has adjustable air springs to let you raise and lower the truck to one of five height settings. It also has smart sensors that’ll automatically lower the vehicle at highway speeds to help reduce drag and increase efficiency.
Since this is a class-exclusive feature, you won’t find it in the F-150.
For being such a rugged truck, the Ram 1500 has a surprisingly sophisticated-looking interior. Katzkin leather seats are available. European-sourced wood accents are available, too, which includes a wood/leather-wrapped heated steering wheel.
To stay nice and comfortable no matter the time of year, the 1500 offers heated and ventilated front seats, along with heated rear seats.
Although the F-150 offers the same heating and cooling features as its competitor, the interior isn’t as refined-looking. It doesn’t have the wood accents nor the same high quality of leather in its seating. As a result, you’ll feel like you’re sitting in a truck rather than a luxury vehicle.
The 2018 1500 and 2018 F-150 offer plenty of advanced technology features to help make your drives more enjoyable. They both come with infotainment systems that offer Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. These let you connect your compatible smartphone to the truck to access music playlists, text messages, podcasts, and more.
While you can see these options on the available 8.4-inch touchscreen on the 1500, the screen in the F-150 is only 8 inches long.
To help keep you aware of your surroundings, the Ram 1500 comes standard with the ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera. It’ll display a video image on the Uconnect® display of whatever’s behind the truck when in reverse.
Although the Ford F-150 also has a backup camera, it doesn’t come standard.
2018 1500 vs 2018 F-150: Verdict
The 2018 Ford F-150 is an impressive truck. However, the 2018 Ram 1500 may be the right option for you with its higher fuel-efficiency, nicer-looking interior, and more available features. Still, to help determine if it’s best for your drives around Chicago, Skokie, Park Ridge, and Forest Park, you’ll need to get behind the wheel.
When you’re ready to experience the 1500 in person, schedule a test drive at Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram. We look forward to meeting you!
