About The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation (CPMF) exists to honor members of law enforcement who have fallen in the line of duty. As these heroes have dedicated their lives to serving their city, the CPMF aims to honor them by supporting their families with financial assistance. Having now completed the construction of the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park located on the Chicago Lakefront, the CPMF continues to focus on fulfilling the needs of the families behind the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Initiatives

The CPMF provides opportunities to not only support the families of those officers who have sacrificed their lives as heroes, but also in preventing more officers from being catastrophically injured in the line of duty.

Get Behind the Vest

Equipping our officers with proper safety gear is essential to helping assure their safety on the job. But, like in the case of bulletproof vests, that gear doesn’t last forever. Bulletproof vests wear out and need to be replaced every 5 years, the cost for which is the responsibility of the officer. At $500+ per vest, that cost can prove to be significant. Thus, the Get Behind the Vest initiative of the CPMF was founded to provide assistance to officers and ensure each officer that’s serving the community is protected.

Helmets for Heroes

Another example of the CPMF’s dedication to officer safety, the Helmets for Heroes initiative is a direct response to the needs of Chicago’s finest. Through it, CPMF has been able to purchase 1,650 ballistic helmets with face shields, featuring kevlar protection and laser beam reflectors, for officers standing on the frontlines and facilitating public safety.

Operation Santa

In further support of the families of fallen officers, Operation Santa is how members and friends of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation spread holiday cheer to those who have lost family members in the line of duty. Through it, CPMF is able to deliver presents and joy where it’s needed most.

Education Assistance

When an officer sacrifices their life in the name of service to the city, they leave behind the loved ones they supported. The Education Assistance initiative of the CPMF aims to extend that support by covering the education expenses for those families befallen by tragedy. From preschool through graduate school, the CPMF takes it as their mission to have these students graduate debt free. Tuition fees and educational grants for books, uniforms, and transportation are taken on through the Education Assistance initiative to offer students who have already endured great hardship the best chance to grow and succeed.

Ways to Show Support

With the great causes the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation supports, there are luckily a number of ways you can support the foundation to help them fulfill their mission. Memorial bricks offer you the chance to contribute to the memorial within the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park with a customizable engraved brick. Or, if you’re feeling lucky, you may consider taking a chance with a “Diamonds and Gold” instant ticket from the Illinois Lottery, where all proceeds are divided between the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee, and the Illinois State Police Memorial Park fund. There are also specialty license plates available for cars and motorcycles that may be issued to those in, previously in, or with family members in or previously in law enforcement.
