The Next Generation of an American Icon: A Look at the All-New 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer/Wagoneer Lineup

As the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer enter their second year of production, the award-winning lineup is turning heads. Wagoneer – the premium extension of the Jeep brand – continues to set the benchmark for American luxury SUVs with the all-new 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L.

The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L are designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight passengers with plenty of cargo room to spare, all while delivering award-winning features such as sophisticated on-road driving dynamics, best-in-class towing capability, powerful new Hurricane twin-turbo V6 engines, cutting-edge safety features and technology, and legendary off-road capabilities.

Interior

The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models feature an elegant design with meticulous attention to detail. Both models offer even more interior space and enhanced passenger legroom: the Wagoneer L has class-leading second-row legroom of 42.7 inches, and third-row passengers in both models have 36.6 inches of legroom – placing them on par with a Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUV.

The Wagoneer L features a one-piece instrument panel, while the Grand Wagoneer L features a two-piece design with an optional Piano Black mid-bolster.
Based on the standard-wheelbase architecture, the new long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L have the following notable changes:

• New body-in-white rear floor
• New body-in-white rear ladder structure
• New body-in-white, third-row seat brackets and reinforcements
• New frame center rail and rear rail extension
• New rear tub
• New load floors

All models feature standard leather-trimmed seats. The Wagoneer L Series I model features Capri leather-trimmed seats, including eight-way power front seats with driver-seat memory, power lumbar support and a four-way powered headrest. The Wagoneer L Series II and III and Grand Wagoneer L Series I feature Nappa leather-trimmed seats, and the Grand Wagoneer L Series II, Obsidian, and Series III models feature Palermo leather-trimmed seating options, with quilting and a leather-wrapped instrument panel, consoles, and door panels with accent stitching.

The Grand Wagoneer L comes with 24-way power front seats, including memory settings and massage, power lumbar support and four-way powered headrests. Memory settings are also standard on Grand Wagoneer L passenger seats. Seating for up to eight passengers is available on all models with a spacious third row. Front and second row captain’s chairs are available on the Wagoneer L and standard on the Grand Wagoneer L.

Exterior

Neither Wagoneer model was small in the first place, but Jeep stretched the wheelbase 7 inches, resulting in an additional 12 inches in overall length. The new exterior design is crafted with a wide stance and large windows for enhanced outward visibility. An A-line that runs all the way around the vehicle pays homage to the original Wagoneer. An acoustic laminated windshield and front door glass are standard equipment to reduce ambient noise levels.

Cargo Space

The extra length doesn’t just expand the passenger space, it also improves cargo capacity. With an overall length of 226.7 inches, the 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L stretch an entire foot further than the standard Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, with the additional length behind the third row in the cargo area. The extra length helps the new L models deliver even more cargo volume for oversized gear. The body height and width for Grand Wagoneer L and body width for the Wagoneer L remain unchanged, while the body height for the Wagoneer L measures just 0.1 inch lower. The wheelbase of the L models now measures 130 inches long – a full 7 inches more when compared to the standard-wheelbase models.

With up to 44.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row – the most in the class – the 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models are fully equipped to handle the luggage and gear of a large family, all while comfortably accommodating up to eight passengers.

For excursions that require even more cargo space, the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offer up to 88.8 cubic feet of space behind the second row and up to 130.9 cubic feet behind the first row. All L models feature six tie-down loops in the cargo area and Grand Wagoneer L models come standard with a cargo management rail system.

Cutting Edge Technology

The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offer a full-color windshield head-up display (HUD) which is configurable up to 10 inches and features four configurations with layouts, including Lane Departure, Lane Keep Assist, adaptive cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, current gear, and speed limit.
A fully digital rearview mirror on the Grand Wagoneer L provides an unobstructed rear view, enhancing visibility and safety. The digital rearview mirror displays video in real time from a rear-facing camera and offers an unobstructed image.
Rear seat monitoring camera views – available on the Grand Wagoneer L – can be accessed through the Uconnect touchscreen, allowing the driver to quickly view the entire cabin and easily zoom-in on each seat. Memory setting functions keep the zoomed image focused on the most recently viewed position, making the system easier to use and limiting driver distraction.

High-Tech Safety and Innovation

The 2023 Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L offer more than 120 standard safety features across the lineup, including:

Hurricane Engines

Jeep’s larger SUVs have traditionally relied on V8s to deliver the powerful performance that drivers expect, but all of that changed with the introduction of the new Hurricane V6. The all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine family delivers more horsepower, more torque and less emissions than many competitors’ naturally aspirated V-8 and boosted six-cylinder engines. Displacing only 3.0-liters, the Hurricane engine is fortified with twin turbochargers to deliver V8-like power with the efficiency of a V6. The Hurricane twin-turbo engine achieves its V-8-rivaling performance while being up to 15% more efficient than larger engines.
