Continue reading below to discover what makes each model unique and extraordinary.

Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Jeep Cherokee: Power

Jeep Grand Cherokee PowerThe Jeep Grand Cherokee offers outstanding power capabilities. Its most powerful engine, the Supercharged 6.2L V8 engine has 707 horsepower with 645 lb-ft of torque. It also supports 7,200 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped.

Even its standard engine, the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine, has impressive specs with 295 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque, and a maximum towing capacity of 6,200 pounds when properly configured. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is truly a powerhouse that won’t disappoint when it comes to strength.

As a compact SUV, the Jeep Cherokee doesn’t possess as much power as the Grand Cherokee, but it doesn’t need to if you’re primarily a weekend adventurer.

The Cherokee’s standard 2.4L Tigershark® Multiair® 2 engine allows you to tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped and produces up to 180 horsepower with 171 lb-ft of torque. If you upgrade to the Latitude Lux trim, the 3.2L Pentastar® V6 engine generates up to 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. It also has a 4,500-pound maximum towing capacity when properly configured, while the Engine Stop/Start technology helps save fuel.

In many ways, the Jeep Cherokee keeps up with the Grand Cherokee while offering the benefit of increased gas mileage without sacrificing power.

With its unique 4-wheel-drive systems, the Grand Cherokee is prepared for all weather and road conditions. But the 4-wheel-drive system isn’t limited to the Grand Cherokee.

All the 2021 Cherokee trims have a 4×4 system that utilizes the Jeep® Active Drive and Jeep® Active Drive Lock 4×4 Systems to allow to clear unpredictable paths even with slow speeds.
