Car Inspection Checklist

Keeping your car in the best possible condition ensures your drives around Chicago, Skokie, and Park Ridge are efficient. When it comes to maintenance, the service team at Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram goes to work to protect your vehicle.
Our car inspection checklist goes over some of the key items that need to be taken care of during the inspection process. Continue reading to learn more about what we look for when Forest Park drivers stop by our service center.
1. Brakes
We’ll start with the brakes, which, like the other tests that will be mentioned, are evaluated on a pass/fail basis. We’ll test the drums and rotors, the parking brake, and the brake pads, too.
Generally speaking, brake pads are changed every 40,000 miles or so. If it’s been a while since the last time you had these checked, we’ll be sure to give them our undivided attention. At the end of the day, you need your brakes to survive when out on the road. Allow our knowledgeable service technicians to make the necessary brake adjustments your vehicle requires.
2. Exhaust System
During an inspection of the exhaust system, we check the exhaust manifold to the tail pipe in a visual manner. All of the parts that lie in between, including the catalytic converter, muffler, and pipes are also inspected.
If you have noticed a darker cloud coming from the tailpipe, and it’s a bluish-white hue, there may be an issue with your car’s engine oil. A leak in the valve seals could be leading to fumes coming out of the tailpipe.
3. Lighting Devices and Reflectors
Unless you’re in the comfort of your own driveway, other drivers need to be able to see you. Lighting devices and reflectors let others know what your next move may be, particularly when it comes to the turn signal, brake lights, and back up lights.
We’ll identify any potential issues and replace the lightbulbs if needed.
4. Tires
Needless to say, you’re not getting very far without your tires. They help you get from point A to point B, and without them, your car isn’t driveable. Our tire test begins with the non-steering components, checking for a flat tire or tire leak, and the overall condition of the tire. Tread depth receives a look, too, and if it’s determined that the tires can no longer properly grip the roads, we’ll install new tires.
The steering components of the tire will be checked, too, which includes boot or ply repair, and checking to see if the tires are properly matched.
